Compost Harvest, Saturday, 2/16
Aloha Compost Club Members and Guests,
Our January Compost Sale was a huge success!!! We earned over $5,000 for the participating schools and got to share our superlative compost and vermicast to gardeners and growers in our community. Many thanks to all of you who helped harvest those big ol’ piles over the last six months and spread the word about the Sale. It truly takes a village to make great compost, and we feel privileged to do this important restorative work with such committed and enthusiastic fellow citizens. The next open-to-the-public Compost Sale will be Saturday, June 29th.
We sold out of compost but do have some vermicast left if you want to pick some up – $15 for a 5-pound container.
The FEBRUARY COMPOST HARVEST will be held this Saturday, February 16th, starting promptly at 10:30 am at Kainalu Elementary School in Kailua. As always, we’ll have it done in an hour and you’ll be on your way by 11:30. Just one pile this time. Please enter the back gate off Kainalu Drive. We’ll open up at 10:00 am.
To become a Compost Club member, all you have to do is spend one hour volunteering at any 3rd-Saturday harvest plus purchase $20 worth of compost (two 5-gallon buckets), which you can carry away with you that day or pre-pay for a later pick-up. You’ll be included on the e-mail blast for scheduled harvests and other events.
The primary benefit of Compost Club membership is being able to purchase compost @ $10 per bucketful at any monthly harvest – rather than wait for the public sales in January and June – whether you volunteer that day or not.
In addition, for every hour you volunteer at a harvest you earn a point, and three points gets you a bucket of compost for FREE.
The third great benefit is the fun and camaraderie at every harvest – it’s easy and satisfying!
Suggested attire: gardening clothes. Closed-toe shoes are a must, and do bring gloves if you have them. We have plenty of small-sized gloves.
