Compost Harvest, Saturday, 7/20
Aloha Compost Club Members and Guests,
We can do two things at once! Mindy will conduct a one-hour FREE WORM WORKSHOP at Ko’olau Farmers Kaneohe location starting at 10 am. Note that there is another workshop next weekend at the Kailua store, so you can catch the worm session next week and still make it to the July Harvest.
The JULYCOMPOST HARVEST will be held this Saturday, July 20th starting promptly at 10:30 am at Kainalu Elementary School in Kailua. As always, we’ll have it done in an hour and you’ll be on your way by 11:30. Zero Heroes Christy Tao and Augusto Decastro will conduct the July harvest. We are sad to be saying aloha to Christy and her family who are moving to Los Angeles. Christy single-handedly managed the Enchanted Lake Elementary site – our biggest – composting 33,991 pounds of food waste in the 2018-2019 school year. Absolutely amazing! We’ll miss her more than you can imagine. Please join Christy in celebrating her Hawaii Harvest Finale.
We welcome new people, so come check it out, and feel free to invite family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. First-timers, there is no obligation whatsoever. We just love to wow people with our extraordinary, artisanal, hand-crafted compost – nutrient-rich, microbially active – simply the best and the absolute pride of our Zero Waste School Hui.
Enter the back gate off Kainalu Drive – you’ll see a sign. We’ll open up at 10:00 am.
To become a Compost Club member, all you have to do is spend one hour volunteering at any 3rd-Saturday harvest plus purchase $20 worth of compost (two 5-gallon buckets), which you can carry away with you that day or pre-pay for a later pick-up. You’ll be included on the e-mail blast for future scheduled harvests and other events.
The primary benefit of Compost Club membership is being able to purchase compost at $10 per bucketful at any monthly harvest – rather than wait for the public sales in January and June – whether you volunteer that day or not.
In addition, for every hour you volunteer at a harvest you earn a point, and three points get you a bucket of compost for FREE.
The third great benefit is the fun and camaraderie at every harvest – it’s easy and satisfying!
Suggested attire: gardening clothes. Closed-toe shoes are a must and do bring gloves if you have them. We have plenty of gloves in all sizes.
