Compost Harvest, Saturday, 10/17
Aloha Compost Club Members and Guests,
The OCTOBER COMPOST HARVEST will be held this Saturday, October 19, starting promptly at 10:30 am at Kainalu Elementary School in Kailua. We have one – possibly two – piles to screen. I think they are both still a bit on the crunchy side, but we have to make room for new piles, so we’re going to go for it! A lot of people prefer the fresher compost, especially for use as top dressing. We have plenty of more finished, seasoned inventory available if that is your preference.
As always, we’ll be done in an hour or less and you’ll be on your way by 11:30.
Enter the back gate off Kainalu Drive – you’ll see a sign. We’ll open up at 10:00 am.
To become a Compost Club member, all you have to do is spend one hour volunteering at any 3rd-Saturday harvest plus purchase $20 worth of compost (two 5-gallon buckets), which you can carry away with you that day or pre-pay for a later pick-up. You’ll be included on the e-mail blast for future scheduled harvests and other events.
The primary benefit of Compost Club membership is the privilege to purchase compost at $10 per bucketful at any monthly harvest – rather than wait for the public sales in January and June – whether you volunteer that day or not.
In addition, for every hour you volunteer at a harvest you earn a point, and three points get you a bucket of compost for FREE.
The third great benefit is the fun and camaraderie at every harvest – it’s easy and satisfying!
Suggested attire: gardening clothes. Closed-toe shoes are a must and do bring gloves if you have them. We have plenty of small-sized gloves.
